Thank you from us all at Bates Farm for everyone that joined us to pick up their turkey. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this busy time.

Big shout out to our amazing team, and to Alan the accordion player & Candice who helped us raise £326.65 today for Cancer Research! 🪗🎶

We’re back again tomorrow 8.30-1pm, serving up bacon baps, brews, and all your pre ordered Christmas essentials! 🦃🥬✨

We do have a few spare 7-8kg available if anyone has left it last min 🥰

We’re pleased to share that we’ve raised £5,161.07 for Cancer Research during our pumpkin season this year!

This takes our fundraising total to £15,805.36 in memory of our Dad, Farmer Mike, who we lost last October ♥️

Huge thanks to everyone who donated, had a photo on our pink tractor or your face painted! Shout out to the team who helped bring our creativity to life and “keeping the big wheel turning” as Dad would say 🥰

We stand with the 40,000 farmers campaigning in London today who have peacefully protested against the budget attack.

Farming is our livelihood and has been in our family for 4 generations. Over the last few years, as we (Alison & Fiona) have taken on more farm responsibility, we have diversified the farm to give the local public an insight into farm life. We have been so grateful for your overwhelming support and want to use our platform to help you understand the reality of the proposed changes…

From April 2026, farms worth over the value of £1 million will face a 20% Inheritance Tax Bill on all agricultural assets. The government argue that just a minority of farmers will be impacted, but we believe it will be the majority of farmers. The reality is farming is an asset rich, and cash poor business - and the running of the farm to feed the nation requires land, machinery, labour all whilst been crippled by rising costs of feed, fertiliser and energy bills. Margins in farming are notoriously low (operating on less than 1% return on capital), and it’s done through a labour of love and not a drive for profit. The latest changes will push family farms out of farming as they simply can’t afford to pass down to the next generation, without selling a proportion of their farm to pay this proposed tax bill, making the future of family farming unviable.

We are calling for the government to urgently re-evaluate their decision to impose a threshold on the value of assets which inheritance tax applies to.

Tomorrow 1,800 farmers will be meeting with MPs for a mass lobby and over 10,000 farmers are planning to meet in London to discuss the future of farming.

Our website is now open for turkey & veg box orders. Our turkeys are slowly-reared on the farm to the highest welfare conditions and our veg is all locally sourced

Christmas turkeys & veg boxes are available to collect on Monday 23rd (8.30-4pm) & Tuesday 24th December (8.30-1pm)

We’ve had a lovely day in the lakes, enjoying great food, a feral dip in lake Windermere and a good explore 🍂🩱🍺

Thanks to Rob for holding the fort at the farm, he only had a forklift emergency to unload, escapee sheep and a last min pumpkin order to deliver!

A huge thank you to all of you for joining us and supporting us, it really means the world! ♥️ We have had the busiest season on record, and we just can’t believe how far people have travelled and how many people have visited! Whether it’s from TikTok, our signs on the road, word of mouth - it all helps and we are so so grateful..

We know that as our events grow, we are going to face the challenge of scaling the business but also to keep our authentic family farm feel. It’s a wonderful challenge to have, and we have so many ideas and plans already to come back bigger and better next year. As many of you know, we have faced a few negative comments - but we are so thankful for the gorgeous responses from all of you who have come together and part of the Bates Farm family. We have soaked up every moment today, and had the best time with you all. We are so lucky we get to call this work 🥰

Big shout out to the team.. we wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this without you! Thank you for all your graft and all the laughs.. it’s been an absolute blast!

Thanks to the gang at @thepickmeuptruck_ & @cuginipizza_ for serving up the most delicious refreshments and keeping us all fuelled up.. farmers LOVE their food!

Lastly a huge thank you to Mum - who sees it all and supports us behind the scenes, your calmness and patience keeps us going through all the farm chaos 🥰

Safe to say, Dad would be proud of us all and on the phone every night telling all his farming friends how busy the farm is 🫶🏻

Now… for a little rest and then back to farming!
